Men's basketball [edit]

Women's basketball [edit]

The Lady Lions, the Penn Land women's basketball game team and the only athletic squad non known as "Nittany Lions," have had more success than their male counterparts, oft gaining berths into the women'southward NCAA tournament, reaching the Final Four in one case in 2000. Penn State's Club Croquet team was established in 2010 and has been growing since with well-nigh 150 members. Penn State has won 86 national team championships all time,[54] 52 of which are NCAA championships.[55] These Partition I NCAA championships rank in a tie for fourth all-fourth dimension, abaft merely UCLA, Stanford, and USC. Penn State has the nearly national championships of any Large Ten schoolhouse. Most of the women's championships prior to 1982 occurred under the auspices of the Clan for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW); indeed, four women'south teams won national championships in 1980 alone. The NCAA did not commencement sponsoring women's championships until the 1981–82 academic year. Some of the men's championships occurred prior to the NCAA sponsoring a championship in that sport (for example, the NCAA did not showtime sponsoring a men's soccer championship until 1959) and some sports have never had recognized NCAA championships (such as Division I FBS football).

Olympians [edit]

Athletes (129) and coaches/faculty members (12) from Penn State have won 17 gilt medals, 15 silverish medals, and 28 statuary medals.[72] [73] [74] [75] The Academy had its almost representatives participating in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games with 21 participants earning eight medals, as well the virtually ever.[76] [77]

5 erstwhile Penn Land student-athletes earned medals in the 2012 London Olympic Games. Women'south volleyball stars Megan Hodge and Christa Harmotto earned silverish medals later on falling to Brazil in the gold-medal match. Additionally, women'south soccer players Erin McLeod and Carmelina Moscato came home with statuary medals playing for the Canada women's national soccer team. Finally, Natalie Dell earned Penn State's starting time rowing medal with her statuary-medal functioning in the women's quadruple sculls.[78] Penn State sent 19 participants to the 2012 Summer Games, a school tape at the time.[79] [fourscore] [81]

Facilities [edit]

The football game team plays in Beaver Stadium. The men's and women's basketball teams play in the Bryce Jordan Center. Most of the other indoor teams play at Rec Hall, which was previously the long term home for the basketball teams as well. The school also is domicile to the Ashenfelter Multi-Sport Facility for indoor track. Other indoor facilities include Lasch Building & Holuba Hall for football game; White Edifice houses gymnastics & fencing; and the Lorenzo Wrestling Complex is within Rec Hall.

A new baseball game stadium named Medlar Field at Lubrano Park opened in June 2006. The stadium is host to both the University baseball game team as well as the State College Spikes, a minor league baseball team. The ballpark is oriented towards the east, offering a view of Mount Nittany. The softball squad plays at its new abode, the Nittany Lion Softball Park, which opened in 2011. Jeffrey Field is home to the soccer program. The lacrosse teams play at the Penn Country Lacrosse Field which opened in 2012 next to the Ashenfelter Multi-Sport Facility. The hockey teams both play at the Pegula Ice Arena. The field hockey squad plays at the Penn Land Field Hockey Complex which is located next to Bigler Field, and opened in 2005.

Additionally, the university operates the Penn State Golf Courses, two courses for the golf game teams, students, faculty, and the general public. The Intercollegiate Athletics Department operates the Stone Valley Recreation Area, approximately twenty miles southeast of Country College.

Penn Country All-Sports Museum [edit]

The Penn State All-Sports Museum,[82] a museum honoring all Penn State Nittany Lion athletes, is located nearly Gate B of Beaver Stadium. The upper level of the museum is dedicated to Penn State basketball game and other indoor sports, while the lower level of the museum is dedicated to outdoor sports. The football exhibit on the lower level features a Heisman Trophy—won by John Cappelletti—and a drove of several other trophies and awards, in addition to honoring the Penn State football game squad, the Penn Country Blue Band, Penn State Cheerleading, and the educatee athletes who have portrayed the Nittany Lion mascot. The museum opened in February 2002.[83]
